HEY DAD, WANNA PITCH TO ME? By Jim Hughes and Nick Hughes

Everything that a future big league hitter needs to know.
-Rick Dumont, Cabinet Press

A positive fundamental guide to hitting.
-Phil Rognier, Baseball Coach and Instructor

In my 27 years of involvement with youth baseball, a learning tool of such simplicity and depth escaped me. All the small things that contribute to poor performance have been captured with clarity. The many drills that are so wonderfully illustrated should be embraced by all coaches in their daily routine of practice with their players. Young ballplayers will gain new insights in their quest to improve their game. A great job. Well done!
 - Dave Orleans

Ted Lecio's baseball card revived memories of a sixty-cent bleacher ticket, twenty cents for the subway and a dime for an ice cream cone. Also remembered are my attempts to swing and throw just like the players on the field. Jim and Nick's well thought-out hitting instructions and the thinking behind them are priceless. I have found in this book the major and minor reasons that I didn't get to play in the big leagues.

This book is by a father and son team. They wanted to share what they know about baseball with other children. Their book includes baseball tips so readers can learn how to become better baseball players. Hey Dad, Wanna Play Catch?, is an easy-to-read book with nine chapters. Each chapter contains demonstrative photos, as well as advice from former Major League Baseball players such as Harry Danning (New York Giants), Mel Parnell (Boston Red Sox), and Elroy Face (Pittsburgh Pirates).

This fantastic book is easy to use, and covers all areas of baseball without sounding preachy, or complicated. Children, ages nine and up, could read and understand this on their own… however, reading it with another baseball fan is sure to provide a more enjoyable read.

If you know a baseball fan then rush to your local bookstore to get them Hey Dad, Wanna Play Catch? They'll thank you for it.

Bravo, Jim and Nick!

"A wonderful book...a real eye opener for parents"
-Dom Dimaggio, Former Boston Red Sox Outfielder

"I see only one potential problem with the book being purchased by a baseball-loving family. A glove-toting youngster, after finishing the book asks,"Hey Dad, Wanna play catch?" A book-toting father answers, "Sorry, son, I'm reading."
 -Joe Sullivan, Manchester Union Leader

"This book will bring the young, and the young at heart, back to the sandlots. Baseball is like life, - learning experience."
 - Rick Dumont, The Cabinet Press

Besides photographs and portions of the letters that they players wrote, the nine chapter book includes a brief biography of each player and a list of 30 stadium addresses where kids, too, can write to the players and ask for an autograph or photo.
Hughes also offers tips on batting, pitching, catching, playing the infield and outfield and base running. The kids posing for black-and-white instructional photos are among some of Merrimack’s young baseball players.
A total of 99 of the former baseball stars gave the Hugheses permission to use their letters and photographs. Some of the players are in the Baseball Hall of Fame, others were batting champions or top pitchers, and others simply dedicated their life to a game they loved for as long as they could, Hughes said. What they all have in common, he said, is an interest in today’s young players.
 - Karen Spiller, The Nashua Telegraph

"We try to obtain one copy of every baseball book that comes out. The Hall of Fame, library in Cooperstown plays host to more than 2.5 million items about baseball. "Anything that helps with baseball's history" is stored at the building and over 10,000 people every year use the publications.
